The Team
Kevin Kaufman
Owner
Born and raised in Florida, Kevin has his Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of South Florida, and his Masters of Science in Tropical Fish Research from Florida GulfCoast University. He began caring for aquariums as a child and turned his passion into a career. In Florida, he cared for Sea World’s 2 million gallon tropical reef tank at their premier destination park, Discovery Cove. After several visits to Vancouver, Kevin decided to call it home. He is now a consultant in the Fish Research Department at the Vancouver Aquarium, and runs Coast Aquariums, bringing a taste of the tropics to Vancouver!
Ruby Banwait
Aquarium Specialist
Ruby is a Senior Biologist at the Vancouver Aquarium. Her work with Coast Aquariums provides us with unparalleled knowledge of cold-water and tropical systems. Ruby has been working with Coast Aquariums since the beginning and is integral in designing filtration systems and ensuring all animals get proper care. She has extensive experience in rearing fish and figuring out the nutritional requirements to maintain healthy aquariums. Ruby dedicates herself to doing amazing work for aquariums and also for the environment, by organizing shore cleanups and finding sustainable, eco-friendly products for Coast Aquariums to use.
Ana Juarez Estrella
Aquarium Specialist
After having worked at the Vancouver Aquarium for nearly 10 years Ana decided she needed a change. In her previous position Ana was a Senior Animal Trainer, she spent countless hours working with whales, dolphins, seals, and sea lions, ensuring they had proper care. These animal husbandry skills are of great value to the aquariums we maintain. Ana has a keen eye for detail and cleanliness and deeply cares about all animals. She can even train some of your fish if you want, just ask!
